The 100W Raycus is the highest power Q-switched fiber laser in the Haotian range that does not require a water chiller. That detail matters more than buyers expect. Water cooling at 100W typically means a $400 chiller, two extra hoses, distilled water management, and a footprint roughly the size of a desktop tower.

This machine skips all of that. It draws air from three rear fans, runs from any standard outlet, and produces 100 watts of average power with 1 mJ of pulse energy at the source. For deep engraving and thin metal cutting on small parts, that combination is hard to find at this price.

Three Reasons Buyers Choose the 100W Raycus

âš¡

Real Power, No Chiller

Air-cooled 100W is rare. Every other 100W fiber laser in this price range needs a water chiller plus the maintenance routine that comes with it. Three rear fans handle thermal load and keep your bench clear.

âš’

Cuts Where 30W Cannot

1 mJ pulse energy combined with 100W average is enough to cut sterling silver and gold sheet up to about 1.0 mm, brass and copper to 0.8 mm, and stainless steel to roughly 1.5 mm. Multi-pass cutting extends those numbers further.

â—†

Production-Grade Deep Engraving

Deep engraving on stainless and tool steel that takes a 30W laser ten passes finishes in three or four passes here. For shops marking serialization or making engraved signage at volume, the throughput math changes completely.

Who Actually Buys This Machine

Jewelers Silver and gold work

Sterling silver and 14k gold sheet cutting for pendants, charms, custom shapes, and small findings. The 100W cuts cleanly through 0.8 to 1.0 mm precious metal sheet in a single pass at moderate speed, which means you can prototype a design in the morning and cut twenty production pieces the same afternoon. Deep engraving on rings, bangles, and signet faces is fast enough to do same-day custom orders without crushing your turnaround promises.

Watchmakers Precision small parts

Cutting watch dials from brass and stainless blanks. Engraving caseback inscriptions deep enough to feel with a fingernail. Marking movement components for serialization and traceability. The 110 by 110 mm working area is right-sized for watch components, and the 0.01 mm minimum line width handles the fine detail on dial markers and indices.

Small Parts Shops Custom metal fabrication

Cutting custom shapes from thin steel, brass, copper, or aluminum sheet for hobbyist projects, RC parts, model building, knife handle scales, instrument fittings, lockpicks, and one-off prototypes. If your work involves small precision parts under 110 mm in any dimension and under 1.5 mm thick, this machine sits in the sweet spot between desktop hobbyist power and full industrial CNC.

Gunsmiths Deep engraving on firearms

Deep enough engraving on slides, frames, and barrels to meet legal serialization depth requirements in jurisdictions that mandate it. The Raycus 100W has the pulse energy to cut into hardened steel in passes that finish faster than a 60W can manage. Stipple-pattern engraving on polymer grips also benefits from the higher peak power.

Tool & Die Mold and tooling marking

Permanent marking on tool steel, hardened steel, and carbide inserts where a 30W or 60W simply does not have the power to make a deep enough mark in reasonable time. Asset tagging on tooling that needs to survive harsh industrial cleaning. Note: this is for marking, not 2.5D mold cavity work — that requires the M8 series with G3 PRO galvo and EZCad3.

Is the 100W Raycus Right For Your Work?

Yes, choose this machine if

You cut precious metal sheet (silver, gold) up to 1 mm thick on a regular basis.

You do deep engraving and the 30W or 60W is the bottleneck on your turnaround time.

You want 100W performance without the chiller maintenance and footprint.

Your parts fit inside 110 by 110 mm and you do not need color marking on stainless.

No, look elsewhere if

Color marking is required on stainless or titanium → the JPT M7 series (MOPA) is the right tool.

You cut sheet metal larger than 110 mm or thicker than 2 mm → choose a CNC fiber cutter.

You drill or cut glass → choose the JPT M8 series (120W M8 or 200W M8).

You mark heat-sensitive plastics, PCBs, or coated tumblers → choose UV or CO2.

Honest Limits Worth Knowing

This is not a MOPA laser. The Raycus RFL-P100QA is a Q-switched source with pulse width fixed in the 250 to 290 nanosecond range. That is enough for monochrome deep engraving and cutting, but not for color marking on stainless. Color marking requires variable pulse width down to roughly 5 to 100 nanoseconds, which only MOPA architecture provides. If color is on your roadmap, look at the JPT 100W M7 instead.

Cutting capacity has real ceilings. 1.5 mm stainless is roughly the practical upper limit, and that requires multiple passes. For sheet cutting beyond 2 mm or for production cutting at any thickness, a CNC fiber laser cutter (1500W and up) is the correct tool. This is a galvo machine — it cuts small precision parts, not full sheets.

Pulse width range is wider than the 20W or 30W. 250 to 290 nanoseconds is significantly longer than the pulse width on the lower-power Raycus models. This is normal for higher-power Q-switched sources, but it means the heat-affected zone on very fine work is slightly larger. For fine jewelry detail under 0.5 mm features, the 30W EM7 MOPA still produces cleaner edges.

Common Questions

Can it really cut sterling silver and 14k gold?

Yes, up to roughly 1 mm sheet thickness in a single pass, and thicker with multiple passes. Sterling silver requires careful focus because of its reflectivity at 1064 nm, but the 100W output overcomes this comfortably. Gold cuts cleaner than silver because gold absorbs slightly more at this wavelength. For 18k and 24k gold, expect slightly slower cut speeds because of higher gold purity reducing absorption efficiency. Actual production-tested settings are included in the parameter library that ships with the machine.

How does this compare to the JPT 100W M7?

Three key differences. First, this machine is air cooled while the JPT 100W M7 is water cooled (chiller adds cost, footprint, and maintenance). Second, the JPT 100W M7 is MOPA, which means it can do color marking on stainless and has adjustable pulse width — this Raycus cannot. Third, the JPT 100W M7 costs more. Choose this Raycus for monochrome work where the chiller-free design is a real benefit. Choose the JPT 100W M7 if you need color marking or adjustable pulse width.

How long can I run it continuously?

Pulsed fiber sources are designed for continuous duty. The Raycus RFL-P100QA can run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, well within design tolerance. The practical limits are operator fatigue and lens contamination from fume buildup, not source duty cycle. Source life is rated at 100,000 hours, which is over 11 years of continuous operation.

Does it fit in a typical small workshop?

Yes. The complete machine occupies roughly the same bench space as a 60W or 80W Haotian fiber laser. Because there is no separate chiller unit, you save the floor or shelf space a chiller would otherwise take. Standard 110V or 220V wall outlet handles the electrical load — no special wiring required.

Will it engrave deep enough for legal serial number requirements?

Most jurisdictions that require deep engraving for serial numbers (firearms, certain industrial parts) specify 0.07 mm depth or roughly 0.003 inches. The 100W Raycus comfortably exceeds that depth in a few passes on most steel grades. For specific legal compliance, verify the required depth for your jurisdiction and test on scrap before committing to production parts.

Can I use a rotary attachment with it?

Yes. The rotary attachment is included in the standard package — choose D60 mini for rings and small charms, D80 standard for cups and small cylindrical items, or D100 large for bigger barrels. The BJJCZ controller drives all three rotaries natively, and EZCad 2 plus LightBurn both have built-in rotary calibration workflows.

What materials should I avoid?

Skip PVC and any chlorine-bearing plastic — toxic gas damages optics and harms the operator. Approach uncoated reflective metals carefully at full power; at 100W the back-reflection risk on polished copper or bare gold is real, so always start at low power and ramp up. Wood, leather, paper, and similar organics absorb almost nothing at 1064 nm — those belong on a CO2 galvo machine, not a fiber laser. Clear glass is the same story; UV is the right wavelength for clean glass marking.
