The HT-460 is built for shops that need real cutting power on wood, acrylic, MDF, and leather without paying industrial-tier prices. RECI is the most widely-distributed CO2 tube brand in the 90-100W class, with a published designed lifespan of 10,000 hours. The S&A CW5200 chiller cools tubes up to 150W, providing cooling headroom that extends tube longevity. Free DDP shipping to the US, Canada, and EU is included.

Why the RECI Tube Matters

The tube is the heart of any CO2 laser. The brand and quality directly determine how the machine performs, year after year.

Glass CO2 laser tubes are a commodity component, but the quality varies significantly by manufacturer. RECI is one of the most recognized CO2 tube brands in the industry, with their W-series tubes used by laser machine builders globally and their product specifications published openly on reci-laser.com.

RECI's W-series tubes use a catalyst plating in the inner wall of the tube, which RECI's documentation states extends the designed lifespan to 10,000 hours, with longer life achievable when the operating current is kept below the rated maximum. The HT-460 ships with a RECI tube in the 90W rated, 100W peak power class. RECI guarantees the rated power but does not guarantee peak power; this is consistent with how all glass CO2 tubes are specified.

This is the most important hardware decision Haotian made on this machine. The frame, optics, controller, and chiller can all be sourced at multiple quality levels, but the tube is what determines how the machine performs on the job, and how long that performance lasts.

Five Things That Define This Machine

Each one is a verified specification from the factory build sheet.

What 100W CO2 Cuts and Engraves

CO2 lasers (10,600 nm wavelength) work on materials that absorb infrared light. Final cut depth varies with material density, settings, lens choice, and tube condition. Always test on scrap.

Acrylic (cast): Cast acrylic produces flame-polished cut edges with CO2 lasers. A 100W gantry handles cuts in this range comfortably; the upper limit depends on speed, air assist, and lens focal length. Cast acrylic is preferred over extruded for cut quality. Acrylic also engraves cleanly with a frosted-white surface effect.

Plywood and MDF: Both materials cut cleanly with CO2 in the typical small-business range. Edges will be dark from the burn, which is a characteristic of CO2 cutting on wood-based materials. Air assist reduces flaming and improves edge quality.

Solid wood (signs and engraving): Engraves softwoods and hardwoods well at high raster speeds. For thick solid hardwood at production speed, a higher-power machine (130W or 150W) cuts faster.

Leather: CO2 lasers cut and engrave leather effectively. High speed with low power prevents charring on premium hides. Real and synthetic leathers both work.

Paper, cardboard, fabric: Very low power settings cut paper and fabric cleanly. Used for laser-cut wedding invitations, packaging prototypes, fabric appliqué, and stencil work.

Rubber stamps: CO2 engraves laser-grade rubber for custom stamp production. The motorized Z makes multi-pass deep engraving practical.

Glass surface engraving: CO2 frosts glass surfaces (wine bottles, mirrors, awards). Wet paper towel or dish soap layer reduces chipping. This is surface marking only, not glass cutting or drilling.

Specific cut depths by material thickness depend heavily on speed, air assist pressure, lens focal length, and tube condition. Haotian provides starter settings with the machine and supports buyers via email at info@haotianlasers.com for material-specific calibration.

What This Machine Cannot Do

Every Haotian product page lists the limits, not just the capabilities. Knowing what a tool cannot do is what separates a working buyer from a frustrated one.

  • Bare metals. The 10,600 nm CO2 wavelength reflects off bare stainless, aluminum, brass, copper, and titanium. CO2 cannot mark or engrave bare metal. For metal work, a fiber laser is the correct tool.
  • Coated tumblers and drinkware at production speed. Possible but slow on a gantry. The right tool is a CO2 galvo (40W or 60W), which uses a scanning mirror system designed for fast small-format coating removal.
  • PVC and vinyl. Never cut PVC with any laser. The chlorine gas released damages optics and harms the operator.
  • Sheet metal cutting. 100W CO2 cannot cut metal sheet. For that, a CNC fiber laser cutter is required.
  • Glass drilling and cutting. CO2 marks glass surfaces but cannot drill or cut through glass. Glass through-drilling requires a JPT M8 fiber laser.
  • PCB and medical device marking. CO2 produces heat. Heat-sensitive components require cold marking, which is the territory of UV lasers.
  • 24/7 industrial production. Glass tubes are designed for normal small-business and pro-shop use. For round-the-clock heavy industrial production, RF metal-tube CO2 machines are designed for that duty cycle.

Common Buyer Concerns

The questions buyers email about before they purchase, with direct answers.

"Is the chiller really included in the price?"
Yes. The S&A CW5200 ships with the machine. Some sellers list the machine cheaper and charge separately for the chiller. The HT-460 price already includes it.
"Does it work with LightBurn on Mac?"
Yes. Ruida DSP controllers are LightBurn-compatible. Mac users skip RDWorks (Windows-only) and run LightBurn directly. Buy the gantry edition, not the galvo edition.
"What's the maximum cut depth?"
Depends on material, speed, lens, and air assist. Cast acrylic and plywood cut cleanly in the typical small-business thickness range. For thick hardwood at production speed, a 130W or 150W machine cuts faster.
"Can I really mark stainless steel mugs?"
No. Bare stainless reflects the CO2 beam. For coated tumblers, use a CO2 galvo. For bare stainless, use a fiber laser. Both are available in the Haotian range.
"What replaces the tube when it dies?"
A direct-fit RECI W-series replacement tube of the same power rating. Pricing varies by retail source. Tube replacement involves alignment of the optical path afterward; Haotian email support walks first-time owners through the procedure.
"Do I need ventilation?"
Yes. CO2 cutting and engraving produces smoke, fumes, and odor that need to be exhausted from the workspace. The included exhaust fan handles ducting to an external vent. Some materials (MDF, plywood, leather) produce stronger fumes than others (acrylic, paper).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a true 100W laser?
The RECI W-series tubes in this power class are officially specified as 90W rated, 100W peak. RECI's own product documentation guarantees the rated power but does not guarantee peak power. This is the standard specification format for all glass CO2 laser tubes. The "90-100W" range on the spec sheet reflects RECI's official specification, not marketing inflation.
How does this compare to a CO2 galvo laser?
The CO2 galvo (Haotian's 40W CO2 galvo or 60W CO2 galvo) is a different machine class entirely. Galvos use scanning mirrors over a small lens field (typically 110 x 110 mm to 300 x 300 mm) and are built for production-speed marking on tumblers, leather goods, and drinkware. The HT-460 gantry is built for cutting full sheets of acrylic, MDF, and wood. They are complementary tools, not competitors.
Can I use LightBurn or am I stuck with RDWorks?
Both are supported. RDWorks ships free on the included USB drive and is functional for most jobs. LightBurn (gantry edition, paid license) is widely preferred by experienced users for its cleaner UI, better camera support, and active development. The Ruida DSP controller is fully compatible with LightBurn out of the box, no firmware changes required.
What is the realistic tube replacement cycle?
RECI's published designed lifespan for the W-series tubes is 10,000 hours under normal operating conditions. Actual lifespan varies with operating current (RECI documentation notes that tube life extends when current is kept well below the rated maximum), water temperature, ambient conditions, and duty cycle. When tube power output drops below acceptable levels for your work, replacement is recommended.
What are the recommended water and operating conditions?
RECI's W-series documentation recommends pure or distilled water at 2-5 liters per minute flow rate, water temperature in the 10-50°C range (with 20-25°C as the typical optimal range for laser performance), and ambient operating temperature of 2-40°C. The S&A CW5200 chiller maintains water temperature within ±0.3°C of the setpoint. Distilled water only, never tap water.
What's the warranty actually cover?
The HT-460 carries an 18-month Haotian warranty on the complete machine including the tube. If a non-tube part has a quality issue (controller, motor, mirror, lens, power supply), Haotian ships the replacement free of charge and you keep the broken part. If the laser source itself has a quality defect during the warranty period, the tube must be returned for inspection and replacement, with shipping covered both ways. After warranty, lifetime email support continues at info@haotianlasers.com.
What's the lead time and shipping situation?
Every machine is built to order. Production lead time is included in the shipping window. Free DDP (duties paid) shipping to the United States, Canada, and EU takes approximately 30 days door to door. Free CIF shipping to all other countries takes approximately 12-14 days, with the customer paying their own import duties on arrival.
Can the bed be expanded? Is there a pass-through?
The HT-460 bed is fixed at 400 x 600 mm. If a larger bed is needed (for example 700 x 500 mm, 1300 x 900 mm, or 1300 x 2500 mm), Haotian builds dedicated larger gantry models in those sizes. The HT-460 does not have a pass-through option. For sign shops working with full-sheet 4x8 stock, ask about the larger gantry options at info@haotianlasers.com.
