The countertop fiber laser

20W JPT M8 Compact Fiber Laser - M8 Power, Pocket Footprint

The smallest, lightest, single-piece fiber laser in the Haotian range. Air cooled, plug-and-play on 110V or 240V, and built around the same JPT M8 source that powers our industrial machines. Engineered for shop counters, jewelry benches, watch repair stations, gift retail, and live trade-show demos where space is short and presentation matters.

Why this machine pays for itself

Personalized engraving turns every walk-in customer into a higher-margin sale. A jewelry shop adding name engraving to rings, a watch shop adding caseback messages, a gift retailer offering same-day initials on bottles and pens can charge $20 to $80 per piece on items that took the laser thirty seconds.

This 20W M8 fits on a 30 cm of counter space, runs on a standard outlet, and produces M8-grade beam quality with peak power above 100 kW. Premium retail, premium results, premium margin.

Why this machine

Five reasons buyers choose the 20W M8

Compact does not mean compromise. This is the same JPT M8 architecture used in our 120W and 200W glass-drilling flagships, scaled down for retail, mobile, and bench-top operation.

01
Smallest M8 in the lineup

9.9 kg total, single-piece chassis

Laser source weighs only 2.7 kg. The complete machine including galvo head, controller, and worktable comes in under 10 kilograms. No split tower, no separate control box, no chiller. Lift it onto a counter, into a car trunk, or onto a fair table without help.

02
Real M8 beam quality

M² less than 1.4, peak power above 100 kW

The JPT M8 source uses the same Master Oscillator Power Amplifier architecture as our flagship industrial machines. Pulse width adjustable from 1 to 350 ns. Pulse repetition rate from 1 to 4000 kHz. Independent control of pulse width and frequency means real MOPA color marking on stainless and titanium, not just monochrome engraving.

03
Plug into any outlet

Universal 100 to 240 V air-cooled operation

Total power consumption is only 90 watts. That is less than a desktop computer. No three-phase wiring, no chiller, no dedicated electrical circuit, no special ventilation. Plug into the same outlet as your point-of-sale system and start engraving.

04
Designed for retail presentation

Quiet, clean, customer-facing operation

Air-cooled means no chiller pump noise. The single-piece chassis looks like a finished retail appliance, not a workshop tool. Show customers their engraving in real time as a closing technique. The 1.1 mJ pulse energy at 20W produces crisp, repeatable marks on jewelry-scale workpieces in seconds.

Footprint

The smallest fiber laser footprint Haotian builds

Other manufacturers ship "compact" fiber lasers that still need 60 cm of counter space and a separate control box. The 20W M8 is genuinely small.

Buyer concerns answered

What buyers ask before purchasing

Is 20W enough power for what I need?

For surface marking, name engraving, color marking, and serial numbers on jewelry-scale items, 20W is plenty. The M8 source's high peak power compensates for the lower average power. If you need deep engraving as a daily workflow or thicker metal cutting, choose 60W or 100W instead.

Can it really do MOPA color marking?

Yes. The M8 architecture supports independent pulse width and frequency control, which is what creates colors on stainless steel and titanium. You can produce blacks, blues, golds, and oxidized rainbow effects exactly the same way as our larger M7 and M8 machines.

Will my standard outlet handle it?

Yes. The total power draw is only 90 watts, less than a typical desktop computer. The 100 to 240 V universal input works on any standard residential or commercial outlet anywhere in the world. No special wiring, no dedicated circuit.

How portable is it really?

The complete machine is 9.9 kg, single-piece, with no separate control box or chiller to carry. One person can carry it from a car trunk to a fair table without help. Plug into any outlet, connect to a laptop via USB, and start engraving within five minutes.

What about software and learning curve?

EZCad 2 ships with the machine pre-configured. LightBurn compatibility is built in for users who prefer that interface. Most operators are running production-quality marks within the first afternoon. Lifetime email support at info@haotianlasers.com after warranty expires.

How does this compare to a 30W or 60W?

The 30W EM7 (rose accent on our site) is larger, heavier, and uses M7 architecture. The 60W EM7 best seller is a workshop machine, not a counter machine. The 20W M8 is the only Haotian fiber laser specifically engineered for retail counter and portable use, and the only machine in this size class with M8 capabilities.

⚠ What this machine cannot do

  • Not a deep engraving production machine. 20W will deep engrave but slowly. For deep engraving as a regular workflow choose 60W minimum, 100W sweet spot.
  • Not a meaningful metal cutter. 20W can score very thin foil at best. For galvo cutting up to 1.5 mm steel, choose 100W or 120W. For sheet metal production use a CNC fiber laser cutter, not a galvo machine.
  • Not a glass drilling production machine. The M8 architecture supports glass surface marking, but the 20W is too low-power for production glass drilling. For drilling holes through glass at production speed, choose the 120W or 200W M8.
  • Not the right tool for tumblers and powder-coated drinkware. Fiber lasers cannot remove powder coating cleanly. For coated drinkware choose our CO2 galvo machines (40W or 60W).
  • Not for wood, leather, or paper. Fiber wavelength does not interact with organic materials. For wood and leather, choose CO2.
  • Not a sample testing service. We do not accept customer samples for testing. The five-feature breakdown above plus our material database covers what is realistic at 20W.

Frequently asked

Common questions about the 20W M8

M7 is JPT's standard MOPA fiber laser line, used in our 60W EM7 best seller, 80W M7, 100W M7, 120W M7, 200W M7, and 350W M7. M8 is JPT's higher-spec line with optimized peak power and beam quality. M8 enables glass marking and glass drilling capabilities that M7 sources cannot do. The 20W M8, 120W M8, and 200W M8 are the M8 series machines in the Haotian range. Buying M8 at 20W means you get the architecture advantage at the smallest size.
Production-speed glass drilling requires the 120W M8 or 200W M8 with the G3 PRO 2.5D galvo and EZCad3 software. The 20W M8 has the source architecture for glass interaction but not the power or scanning system for production drilling. It can do surface marking on glass (perfume bottles, wine bottles, awards, mirrors) which our M7 machines cannot do well at any power. Match the machine to the workflow.
A standard "name + date" engraving on a ring inside surface or watch caseback typically takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes depending on character size, depth, and material. For a busy jewelry counter that handles 20 to 50 personalization requests per week, the 20W M8 keeps up easily. For shops engraving hundreds of items per day, choose 30W EM7 or higher.
Yes. The 100 to 240 V universal voltage input means the machine runs anywhere in the world on a standard outlet. We ship Free DDP to US, Canada, and EU with all import duties paid. Worldwide shipping is Free CIF, which means you handle the local import duties (typically a few percent depending on country). Built to order, delivered in approximately 12 days CIF or 30 days DDP.
Yes. Unlike larger fiber lasers that ship as a tower plus a separate control cabinet plus a chiller, the 20W M8 is one integrated chassis. The laser source, galvo scanning head, controller, and worktable share a single housing. Total weight is 9.9 kg. You unbox it, plug it in, connect a USB cable to a laptop, and start engraving. No assembly, no installation engineer needed.
The 20W M8 does not include a battery, but its 90 W power consumption is low enough that any standard portable power station rated 100 W or higher (most consumer power stations are 300 W or above) will run it. Common station brands handle this easily. We do not officially support battery operation, but the electrical profile makes it practical. For trade-show use most venues provide 110 V or 240 V outlets.
Surface marking and color marking on stainless steel, titanium, brass, copper, anodized aluminum, bare aluminum, tool steel, hardened steel, and most platings. Glass surface marking on borosilicate, soda lime, and quartz. Some plastics with MOPA short pulse widths. It cannot mark wood, leather, paper, acrylic, fabric, or coated tumblers. For those materials our CO2 galvo machines are the right tool. For PCB and medical device cold marking choose UV.
The natural upgrade path is the 60W EM7 best seller at $4,400 for buyers who need higher throughput on standard metal marking, or the 120W M8 for buyers whose workflow shifts toward glass drilling. The 20W M8 keeps its value as a counter or trade-show machine even after a larger machine joins the workshop. Many production shops keep a 20W on the retail floor and a 60W or 100W in the back.
